Anal Fistula

Anal fistula is an abnormal connection in the form of an inflamed canal between the breech inner surface and the skin outside the breech. It can be in the form of a single channel or it can consist of several channels in the form of tree branches. It also resembles the paths the mole makes under the ground. However, the places where these roads pass are very important, because there are muscles in this region that are very important in human life in terms of their functions. Once the fistula has occurred, it means that there will be continuous inflammation. Spontaneous recovery is very rare and requires treatment. Anal fistula patients often suffer from a constant-blunt pain in the rectum, inflammation or blood during defecation, foul-smelling discharge and itching sensation. Patients definitely need intervention for fistula that does not heal spontaneously.

The diagnosis of anal fistulas is made by experienced General Surgery Specialists during the examination. Approximately 70% of anal fistulas are of the "simple" type with limited association with the anal sphincters. However, it should not be forgotten that this typing, which will determine the type of treatment, must be done carefully and using imaging methods. Anal fistulas are complex at a rate of 30%, and there are many alternatives in their treatment, from seton to sophisticated methods such as laser. The main purpose of the treatment should be to prevent damage to the muscles that enable to hold ablution.

Anal fistula is the chronic form of anal abscess. The most important symptom of the disease is the discharge and pain in the anus area. When the obstruction of this tunnel is added to the current situation, an abscess may occur and this time severe anal pain and fever may be added to the symptoms. Success in anal fistula treatment is measured by not recurring the disease and minimizing the amount of damaged muscle. Since it is a difficult surgical method, it should be well planned and performed by a specialist physician. Depending on the degree of development and type of fistula, rectal incontinence (fecal incontinence) may develop. The degree of incontinence depends on the skill and experience of the surgeon as well as the type and characteristics of the disease.

What are the causes of anal fistula?
